The Santa Margarita Ranch zipline operates on a property that has been under continuous cattle ranching since 1837, making it one of the oldest working land grants in California. Margarita Adventures built its aerial course into the oak canopy and ridgeline corridors without disrupting the ranch's grazing rotation, so participants frequently spot Hereford cattle in the pastures below the ziplines. The course layout consists of seven zipline segments connected by sky bridges and platform transfers, totaling roughly 7,500 linear feet of cable. The longest single run stretches 1,800 feet across a seasonal creek canyon, with riders reaching speeds near 40 miles per hour depending on weight and wind conditions. Each platform is anchored to mature valley oaks or engineered into bedrock outcrops, and the route descends 300 vertical feet from the high ridge launch point to the final landing zone near the vineyard rows. Guides manage groups of up to ten participants per departure, with tandem braking systems on every line and backup harness protocols throughout. The ranch setting provides terrain variety that purpose-built zipline parks cannot replicate. The first three lines cross open grassland with views west toward the Santa Lucia Range, while the middle segments drop into oak woodland where the temperature drops noticeably and the canyon acoustics amplify the cable hum. The final descent runs parallel to the estate vineyard, and most tours conclude with an optional wine tasting at the ranch's tasting room, though that component carries a separate fee and is not included in the standard zipline tour price. Tours run year-round, with the course accessible in all but the heaviest rain or sustained winds above 25 miles per hour.
